Sahm Pledges His Sword to Manuchehr
From A7.1, The Crowning of Manuchehr. It illustrates A7.1.29–40 (to A7.1.41):
- A7.1.29Then world-champion Sahm rose from his place:“O just king, judgment shines upon your face.
- A7.1.30I have seen kings through many years gone by;In you shines justice clear to every eye.
- A7.1.31From father after father comes your claim; The riders’ chosen lion, crowned with fame.
- A7.1.32May the pure Maker guard your soul and frame;Keep glad your heart, and radiant your name.
- A7.1.33In you the memory of old kings revives; The Kayanian spring again arrives.
- A7.1.34In battle you are lion, firm and bright; At feast you are the sun that pours its light.
- A7.1.35May earth and Time lie dust beneath your feet;May turquoise throne remain your royal seat.
- A7.1.36You washed the earth clean with the Indian blade; Now sit at ease and let the feast be made.
- A7.1.37From now the turn of battle falls to me;Your place is throne and feast, from warfare free.
- A7.1.38My forebears all were champions of renown,The refuge of great nobles and the crown.
- A7.1.39From Garshasp down to Nariman of fame,Sepahbods, khanjar-wielders, bore that name.
- A7.1.40I shall go round the world from end to end,And bind each rising foe who would contend.
