Zal Strikes Down Khazarvan
From B1.10, Zal Comes to Mehrab’s Aid. It illustrates B1.10.24–28:
- B1.10.24His blood ran hot; his fury flared and grew;He seized his father’s gorz and forward flew.
- B1.10.25Then Khazarvan advanced with roaring cry,Like lion fierce beneath the darkened sky.
- B1.10.26But Zal surged on and would not quit the fight; He raised the ox-head gorz with all his might.
- B1.10.27He swung the gorz with force no man could stay,And struck his head and drove his life away.
- B1.10.28His blood made earth appear a leopard’s hide;Zal cast him down and passed him in his stride.
