Khosrow Brings the Summons to Farangis
From B10.10, Afrasiab Sends Kay Khosrow to Khutan. It illustrates B10.10.20–28:
- B10.10.20He rode like smoke, his horse at headlong pace,And reached Khosrow within the appointed place.
- B10.10.21There farr and royal glory met his eyes,The prince bore signs of kingship in his guise.
- B10.10.22He praised him, bowed, and then, in words well-weighed,The royal message faithfully conveyed.
- B10.10.23The message left no head or footing clear;Khosrow stood lost between command and fear.
- B10.10.24He ran to Farangis and spoke in dismay:“The king commands; I cannot disobey.
- B10.10.25He calls me down toward the distant sea; What path remains? What hope is left for me?”
- B10.10.26They searched through every counsel they could find,But no escape appeared to heart or mind.
- B10.10.27At last they saw no course except to go,No counsel could undo the royal blow.
- B10.10.28They left unwilling, both with hearts oppressed,And grief went with them on the road they pressed.
