Farangis Sights the Pursuers
From B10.22, Piran Pursues Kay Khosrow. It illustrates B10.22.9–16:
- B10.22.9At last they reached a river deep below,Their ranks spread warp and woof beside its flow.
- B10.22.10Its bed was deep, but narrow was its span;To cross its waters daunted every man.
- B10.22.11That stream was Gulzaryun, its current dread; In spring it ran with blood, a sea of red.
- B10.22.12Across the bank lay Khosrow, Giv asleep,While Farangis alone the watch did keep.
- B10.22.13She searched the distant reaches of the land,And saw afar the Turanian chief’s command.
- B10.22.14She hurried back and raised a warning cry,And broke their sleep as danger drew close by.
- B10.22.15She cried, “Rise, warrior, worn by toil and pain; The hour of battle looms before you plain.
- B10.22.16Their horsemen follow underneath the moon;I fear that time will close around us soon.
