From B10.23, The Contest of Piran and Giv. It illustrates B10.23.1–5:
- B10.23.1Giv donned his jowshan, rode with lion’s zeal,His steed beneath him strong as tempered steel.
- B10.23.2The chief stood here, the army gathered there,The river flowed between and barred the pair.
- B10.23.3Giv roared aloud like thunder in the spring,And challenged Piran, leader of the wing.
- B10.23.4Piran grew angry, cursed him in reply:“You base-born wretch, ill-starred beneath the sky!
- B10.23.5Alone you come before this army’s line,One warrior facing all these ranks of mine.
