Tus Refuses Allegiance
From B10.31, Tus Refuses Allegiance to Kay Khosrow. It illustrates B10.31.5–16 (to B10.31.30):
- B10.31.5Iran’s great champions girded at the sign,But Tus, son of Nohzar, turned from the line.
- B10.31.6He held the koust and golden shoes of state,And Kaveh’s banner, signs that marked the great.
- B10.31.7Gudarz grew angry, hot with wrath inside,And chose brave Giv to bear his words to Tus’s side.
- B10.31.8A champion’s grip was strong within his hand,A lion’s arm renowned throughout the land.
- B10.31.9He said: “Go speak to Tus, son of Nohzar:Seek not dispute when joy has come so far.
- B10.31.10The nobles and the lions of the courtHave blessed the prince, united in support.
- B10.31.11Why heed a Div and turn your head away,Nor see the ruler’s farr that lights his way?
- B10.31.12If you refuse young Khosrow as your king,Then feud with Gudarz is what you will bring.
- B10.31.13These words are mine; the gathered chiefs agree;Go bear our message, Giv, by their decree.
- B10.31.14Stand before Tus and speak what you have heard;Tell him: ‘Turn not your head from any word.’”
- B10.31.15Giv left his father, turning from his place,His heart filled full of harsh words for the case.
- B10.31.16He said: “O Tus, this counsel you now choose,Has found no fellowship with wisdom’s use.”
