Khosrow Enthroned on the War Elephant
From B10.32, Gudarz’s Anger at Tus. It illustrates B10.32.8–14:
- B10.32.8When Tus beheld the troops that Gudarz led,The sun and moon grew dark above his head.
- B10.32.9A mighty elephant, of stately gait,Advanced; its turquoise throne shone bright, ornate.
- B10.32.10Upon that throne sat Khosrow crowned and bright,His waist was girded, stern and full of might.
- B10.32.11Two hundred elephants around him spread,Till earth itself seemed hidden where they tread.
- B10.32.12He shone like moonlight from the royal throne,A ruby crown above his temples shone.
- B10.32.13His armlet, torque, and earrings flashed with light,His ox-head gorz held firmly for the fight.
- B10.32.14Then Tus reflected, troubled in his mind:“If battle starts, what ruin shall we find?
