Gudarz and Tus Dispute before Kavus
From B10.33, The Kingship Is Debated before Kavus. It illustrates B10.33.6–17 (to B10.33.28):
- B10.33.6Then Tus and Gudarz came, their duty known,And spoke before the king in measured tone.
- B10.33.7Tus said: “If you are weary of what kingship brings,If weary too of throne and crown of kings,
- B10.33.8Then let your son inherit throne and might; The diadem and treasure are his right.
- B10.33.9Why should a grandson take the royal place,While still a son remains of kingly race?
- B10.33.10In him the Kayan farr and burz appear; He girds himself like lion without fear.”
- B10.33.11Then Gudarz said: “Your wisdom is too small; No wise man counts you wise among them all.
- B10.33.12No man has equaled Siavash in worth,So generous, noble, gentle on this earth.
- B10.33.13And this world-seeking prince, Siavash’s son,In face and form, the two would seem as one.
- B10.33.14Though on his mother’s side he springs from Tur,Yet royal blood and justice both endure.
- B10.33.15No man in Iran or Turan is his peer; Why speak such raw and unripe counsel here?
- B10.33.16You have not seen his stature, face, and frame,Nor known the mehr that shines about his name.
- B10.33.17He crossed the Jihun, seeking not a boat;Kayanian farr and sense kept him afloat.
