Giv Plants the Royal Letter on the Wall
From B10.35, Kay Khosrow Captures Bahman Castle. It illustrates B10.35.25–34:
- B10.35.25Then Khosrow took a long and mighty spear,And bound the royal letter, plain and clear.
- B10.35.26He raised it like a standard in the air,And sought no prize but royal farr to bear.
- B10.35.27He called to Giv and gave him this command:“Take up this spear and do as I have planned.
- B10.35.28Bear forth this letter, stern in warning, high,And bring it where the rampart meets the sky.
- B10.35.29Invoke Yazdan, then turn your reins away;Do not remain beside the wall or stay.”
- B10.35.30Then faithful Giv, with blessings, rode to fight,The spear in hand, toward the fortress height.
- B10.35.31Through Khosrow’s farr he fixed it in the wall,The royal letter set beyond recall.
- B10.35.32He praised Yazdan, the giver of the good,Then wheeled his white horse swiftly as he could.
- B10.35.33The famous letter vanished; in its steadA crash rose up, and dust above it spread.
- B10.35.34By Yazdan’s high command the rampart split,Its mighty wall was torn from where it knit.
