Arrows Rain on the Divs in Darkness
From B10.35, Kay Khosrow Captures Bahman Castle. It illustrates B10.35.36–44:
- B10.35.36The world turned black as Zangi’s face in night;Sun, Pleiades, and moon were lost from sight.
- B10.35.37A dark cloud rose and filled the shrouded air;The heavens gaped like lion’s jaws laid bare.
- B10.35.38Then Khosrow urged his black horse with a cry,And called his Pahlevans, his gorz held high:
- B10.35.39“Let arrows fall like rain upon this hold,As storm clouds pour their torrents fierce and cold.”
- B10.35.40A cloud poured down a deadly storm of hail,Its diamond-hard blows swept the wall and vale.
- B10.35.41By arrows many Divs lay slain around,And Ahriman’s own creatures strewed the ground.
- B10.35.42At last a radiant light began to break,And darkness fled as dawn began to wake.
- B10.35.43A blessed breeze passed over field and height,And smiling earth and air grew clear with light.
- B10.35.44The world shone like the moon, serene and white; The Divs withdrew, by Khosrow’s word, outright.
