Piran Calls Up to Tus
From B13.13, Piran’s March to Mount Hamavan. It illustrates B13.13.6–17 (to B13.13.21):
- B13.13.6Piran cried: “O Tus, renowned in battle’s course,With elephants, gopal, and koust in force,
- B13.13.7Five months have passed since war consumed the plain,Gudarz’s foremost kin lie headless, slain.
- B13.13.8You fled, your panting soldiers in your train,And climbed the heights, your heart still bent on bane.
- B13.13.9Like mountain sheep, you sought the rocky lair,Yet surely you will fall within my snare.”
- B13.13.10Noble Tus then replied: “I scorn your lies;Your falsehoods cannot stand before my eyes.
- B13.13.11For Siavash you stirred the fires of hate,And spread new vengeance through the proud and great.
- B13.13.12Have you no shame for words of heated air? They will not lure me to your waiting snare.
- B13.13.13May no such Pahlevan as you ariseAmong the mighty, honored by the wise.
- B13.13.14Your oath destroyed Siavash in Turan’s land,His blood convulsed the earth on every hand.
- B13.13.15You held him there in Turan by deceit; Now war and vengeance answer that dark feat.
- B13.13.16Alas for that great prince, that noble face,Whose presence once brought joy to every place.
- B13.13.17By these devices, by such fraud and spite,You gain no luster in a true man’s sight.
