From B13.15, Khosrow Learns of His Army’s Plight. It illustrates B13.15.44–54:
- B13.15.44When Kay Khosrow heard Rostam, tears arose; Two streams ran down the Shah’s face in his woes.
- B13.15.45He said: “Without you life has lost its glow;I want no orung, crown, or gorz or bow.
- B13.15.46Let heaven’s vault be captured by your chain,And crowned heads lie in bonds beneath your reign.”
- B13.15.47The treasurer unlocked the royal store,And brought out crowns and jewels by the score,
- B13.15.48With kolah, bows and kamand, belts and gear,And sacks of silver coin were gathered near.
- B13.15.49The Shah gave all to Rostam and then said:“O warrior whose fame is widely spread,
- B13.15.50Go with Zabulistan’s gorz-bearing band,And Kabul’s mighty warriors at your hand.
- B13.15.51Move swift as wind; do not delay your pace,And let no soldier linger in his place.
- B13.15.52Choose thirty thousand swordsmen, battle-tried,Prepared for war, with danger at their side.
- B13.15.53Give troops to Fariborz, Kavus’s son,To lead the van until revenge is won.”
