Piran Kisses the Ground Before the Khan
From B13.19, The Coming of the Khan of Chin. It illustrates B13.19.1–9:
- B13.19.1When Piran reached the allied camp, so vastThat hooves hid plain and valley, thickly massed,
- B13.19.2The tents and rich enclosures filled the ground,With red and yellow, blue and violet crowned.
- B13.19.3Amid each camp a royal standard shone,Of diba and parniyan richly sewn.
- B13.19.4Amazed, he pondered on that wondrous show,And searched his heart to grasp what lay below.
- B13.19.5“Is this Paradise, or banquet bright,The starry heaven, or moon’s circling light?”
- B13.19.6Afoot he came and kissed the ground in greeting; The Khan received him gladly at their meeting.
- B13.19.7The Khan embraced him, marveling at his frame,His chest and neck, his stature and his fame.
- B13.19.8He questioned him at length, with honor shown,And seated Piran near him on the throne.
- B13.19.9He said: “My soul is bright with joy today,To sit beside a Pahlevan this way.”
