Afrasiab Reads Kavus's Challenge
From B6.7, Kavus’s Message to Afrasiab. It illustrates B6.7.29–34:
- B6.7.29Before the king of Turks and Chin he bowed,Kissed earth, gave blessing, then the words avowed.
- B6.7.30He spoke the Shah’s commands before the throne,Then gave the written words that made them known.
- B6.7.31When Afrasiab read the written threat,His blood rose hot, his fury firmly set.
- B6.7.32He said: “Such words befit a nature base;Let him think twice before he shows his face.
- B6.7.33If Iran had fulfilled your restless will,You would not covet Hamavaran still.
- B6.7.34Now I have come prepared to wage the fight,And raised my shining standard to the light.
