Siavash's Farewell to Behzad
From B9.52, Siavash’s Farewell to Farangis. It illustrates B9.52.39–45:
- B9.52.39He sought the stables of his noble steeds,And led out Behzad, famed for battle deeds.
- B9.52.40Night-colored Behzad, swifter than the gale,On vengeance day would leave the wind to fail.
- B9.52.41He groaned and pressed its head against his breast,Then loosed its bridle, halter, gave it rest.
- B9.52.42He whispered counsel softly in its ear:“Stay wakeful-hearted; let no steed draw near.
- B9.52.43When Kay Khosrow shall rise to seek redress,Give him your reins and bear him through the press.
- B9.52.44Leave now the stable; break from every chain,For you shall bear him on the vengeful plain.
- B9.52.45Carry him forth; let terror spread ahead,And with your hoof sweep every foe in dread.”
