The Blood of Siavash
From B9.55, Siavash Falls by Gurvi’s Hand. It illustrates B9.55.24–31:
- B9.55.24The basin filled; then Gurvi Zereh boreThe blood to where the king had marked before.
- B9.55.25He overturned it on the appointed ground,Where barren earth lay silent all around.
- B9.55.26At once a plant sprang from that bloody seed,A living witness to the brutal deed.
- B9.55.27They call it Blood of Siavash to this day,A sign no passing age can sweep away.
- B9.55.28When life withdrew from that now fallen frame,And silence closed upon his lifeless name,
- B9.55.29He sank in sleep no morning could dispel,Where neither dawn nor waking radiance fell.
- B9.55.30A black wind rose, and dust obscured the sky,And veiled the sun and moon from every eye.
- B9.55.31No man could see the face beside his own,So thick the dark across the world had grown.
