The Captives Sent to Kavus
From C4.32, Khosrow Sends Spoils and Captives to Kavus. It illustrates C4.32.6–14:
- C4.32.6When night had come, he gave command aloud:“Bring forth the women, hidden from the crowd,
- C4.32.7All Afrasiab’s daughters, kin, and train,And all dependents who with them remain.”
- C4.32.8They brought them forth in litters through the gate,From palace to the square of royal state.
- C4.32.9They brought a hundred chiefs of famous name,Renowned in war and crowned with former fame.
- C4.32.10They brought all Afrasiab’s kin in grief,Their eyes with tears that know no sure relief.
- C4.32.11Then Jahan, Garsivaz, whom men revered,In litters, and with fettered feet, appeared.
- C4.32.12They brought a thousand hostages in tow,The pledges Turk and Chin had to bestow.
- C4.32.13Ten thousand men of Iran formed the band;He put them under Giv’s protecting hand.
- C4.32.14“O man whose steps are fortunate,” he said,“Go now to great Kay Kavus in my stead.”
