Goshtasb Swoons at the Prophecy
From C6.10, Goshtasb Hears Jamasp’s Prophecy. It illustrates C6.10.103–110:
- C6.10.103When Shah Goshtasb, the world’s lord, saw revealedThe secrets that the veil of fate concealed,
- C6.10.104His gold gorz fell; he sank upon his throne; His splendor and his farr seemed overthrown.
- C6.10.105He fell upon his face and swooned away; No word he uttered in that bitter day.
- C6.10.106When sense returned, he left the throne and wept, And bitter grief within his bosom kept.
- C6.10.107“What use are throne and kingship in my grief, When darkness fills my days without relief?
- C6.10.108With all my moons and horsemen, princes slain, What need have I of crown or royal reign?
- C6.10.109What need of Fortune, rule, or royal might, When those I love are hidden from my sight?
- C6.10.110My dearest, chosen warriors will depart, And tear out from my flesh this wounded heart.”
