Bahram's Arrows Fell the Giant Wolf
From D10.30, Bahram Slays the Wolf for Shangul. It illustrates D10.30.22–27:
- D10.30.22That valiant youth then strung his bow for death; One might have thought he scorned his mortal breath.
- D10.30.23He charged the wolf in anger; on he sped,His heart prepared for death that lay ahead.
- D10.30.24He gripped his Kayanian bow for fight,And drew a khadang shaft to speed its flight.
- D10.30.25He poured his arrows like a storm of hail,Until the wolf began to faint and fail.
- D10.30.26When Bahram saw the beast’s last strength was low,He drew his khanjar, putting down his bow.
- D10.30.27He cut its head clean off and spoke in prayer:“In God’s name, who has neither mate nor pair.
