Pirooz at Bahram's Border Column
From D11.3.2, Pirooz’s City-building and War with Turan. It illustrates D11.3.2.14–23:
- D11.3.2.14With troops and treasure, warlike gear arrayed,He marched on Khoshnavaz with naked blade.
- D11.3.2.15Brave Bahram once had marked the border plain,And raised a column there within his reign.
- D11.3.2.16A royal covenant was carved and set,That Turk and Iranian must not forget:
- D11.3.2.17“Let neither people cross this boundary line,Nor claim beyond the stream, ‘That land is mine.’”
- D11.3.2.18When lion-quelling Pirooz reached the ground,He saw where Bahram’s farr and mark were found.
- D11.3.2.19He told his chiefs, “Toward Turkish lands ahead,I will set up a farther mark instead.
- D11.3.2.20With sword and treasure I will build it tall,So Heytalian threats may trouble none at all.
- D11.3.2.21And when the chiefs produce the treaty’s word,This is the answer they shall then have heard:
- D11.3.2.22‘Bahram himself once raised this marker here,Through wisdom, might, and farr that all revere.’
- D11.3.2.23Through Heytal and the Turks’ lands, hill and plain,No trace of Khoshnavaz shall there remain.”
