The Army Rings the Baluch Mountains
From D13.7, Anooshirvan Subdues the Borderlands. It illustrates D13.7.49–57:
- D13.7.49The noble’s words inflamed the Shah that day;Against the Baluch he led his array.
- D13.7.50When he drew near those towering mountain walls,He ringed their heights with camps and sentry calls.
- D13.7.51His army closed the mountains all around,And barred each passage over stony ground.
- D13.7.52They barred the path to wind and ants alike; No hidden road remained for flight or strike.
- D13.7.53Like ants and locusts, soldiers filled the place,From mountain skirts to sandy desert space.
- D13.7.54A herald moved throughout the camp and cried,From caves and hills and plains on every side:
- D13.7.55“Spare neither children found within their bounds,Nor fighting men you meet upon your rounds.
- D13.7.56Whether they come in numbers great or small,Let not a single one escape at all.”
- D13.7.57The troops, aware how fierce the Shah had grown,Sealed every outlet with ranks of their own.
