Monzer Rides to Meet the Shah
From D13.8, Monzer Seeks Justice from Anooshirvan. It illustrates D13.8.1–7:
- D13.8.1From Gilan then to Madain he made way,With train past numbering in vast array.
- D13.8.2As he advanced, before him rose to sightA boundless force of warriors armed for fight.
- D13.8.3One horseman broke from those great ranks to flySwift through the dust, and bold of speech and eye;
- D13.8.4He left his charger, bowed, and then he said,“Behold Monzer, the Arab chief ahead.”
- D13.8.5When Monzer came before the Shah’s own face,The chiefs made way and left him ample space.
- D13.8.6The Shah received him warmly at his seat,And joy shone in his face when they did meet.
- D13.8.7That veteran loosed his tongue; of Rum he spoke,Of Caesar’s pride, and of the desert folk.
