The Minister's Sealed Casket
From D7.2, Ardeshir and the Daughter of Ardavan. It illustrates D7.2.56–62:
- D7.2.56He told his servants, “Bring a litter here;At dusk, before the Shah, let me appear.”
- D7.2.57They lifted him in anguish, bent and frail,And laid him in the litter, deathly pale.
- D7.2.58The Shah then asked the minister to speak:“Why has such yellow pallor stained your cheek?”
- D7.2.59He answered, “What I did has left me torn,My heart in pain, my face so pale and worn.”
- D7.2.60Before the lofty throne he set the case,Its seal and binding still secure in place.
- D7.2.61He said, “Entrust this casket to the wardOf your own treasurer, within your hoard.”
- D7.2.62The date was written on the casket’s face,With marks by which its origin to trace.
