Minting Khosrow's Coins at Rey
From E5.25, Bahram’s Plan of the Coinage. It illustrates E5.25.18–25:
- E5.25.18On Khordad day, within the month of Dey,He left Balkh, deep in thought, and rode to Rey.
- E5.25.19He weighed the gains and losses in his mind,Then bade them build a mint as he designed.
- E5.25.20They struck fresh dinars with inscription clear,And made Prince Khosrow’s royal name appear:
- E5.25.21The portrait of the youth upon the face,Proclaiming him the ruler of the race!
- E5.25.22He chose a merchant of discerning wit,Eloquent, shrewd, and for his purpose fit;
- E5.25.23He gave him laden bags to bear awayTo Tisfoon’s marts without the least delay:
- E5.25.24“Spend all this gold on Roman silk,” he said,“And fine brocades with glittering figures spread;
- E5.25.25Disperse the coins until they reach the throne,And let the Shah believe his realm outgrown!”
