The Violet Dragon Banner of Rostam

From E5.6, Bahram Chubin Takes Command. It illustrates E5.6.94–100:

  • E5.6.94
His helm and jowshan came at his command; He mounted, taking up his coiled kamand.
  • E5.6.95
The Shah and all his wazirs then went out,With arrows, clubs, and polo-balls about.
  • E5.6.96
Bahram came, jowshan-clad, in Roman helm; The Shah then blessed the guardian of the realm.
  • E5.6.97
He kissed the earth before the royal seat,His homage to the king of kings complete.
  • E5.6.98
Then came the violet dragon-banner bright,The flag of Rostam, borne in ancient fight.
  • E5.6.99
The Shah bestowed it: “Take it from my hand;A second Rostam rises in the land.”
  • E5.6.100
Bahram then blessed the Shah and took his stand,The glorious banner under his command.
