The Woman with the Sack of Straw
From E5.7, Bahram Chubin Rides against Saveh. It illustrates E5.7.47–53:
- E5.7.47A woman bore a sack of straw for sale,And hurried through the troops along the trail.
- E5.7.48A horseman bought the sack she brought that day,Then rode off with the straw and did not pay.
- E5.7.49He rode away. She came in grief and shame,And stood before Bahram to state her claim:
- E5.7.50“I brought a sack of straw that should be sold;A horseman took the sack, but paid no gold.
- E5.7.51He wore an iron helmet on his head;He took my goods and left,” the woman said.
- E5.7.52They searched and found the culprit in the band,And brought him to the chief at his command.
- E5.7.53Brave Bahram Chubin met him with a stare:“You thought your theft too small to warrant care?”
