A Turk's Lasso Snares the Royal Crown
From E6.6, Gurdiyeh’s Counsel and Khosrow’s Purpose. It illustrates E6.6.4–10:
- E6.6.4That horseman rushed forth, grim and seeking fight,His kamand wound in sixty coils held tight.
- E6.6.5He neared the Shah’s bright ivory-colored steed,And aimed at crown and head, kamand half-freed.
- E6.6.6He cast his sixty-coiled kamand in flight,And snared the royal crown in all men’s sight!
- E6.6.7Quick Gostaham unsheathed his blade to tearThe rawhide loops, and cut the deadly snare;
- E6.6.8While Bandvi loosed a shaft of whistling fire,To pierce the treacherous raider in his ire.
- E6.6.9Bahram cried, “May dust conceal your head,And may the earth alone become your bed.
- E6.6.10Who bade you strike the Shah before my eyes?I stood in parley under open skies.”
