Bandvi in the Royal Robe on the Roof
From E6.9, Bahram’s Pursuit and Bandvi’s Rescue. It illustrates E6.9.40–47:
- E6.9.40When Khosrow vanished in that swift retreat,Bandvi prepared his stratagem complete.
- E6.9.41He told the bishop, “Seek the mountain height;Stay out of every hostile rider’s sight.”
- E6.9.42Then Bandvi swiftly entered in the shrine,And shut the iron door with firm design.
- E6.9.43He donned the robe embroidered all with gold,And set the royal crown on, bright and bold.
- E6.9.44He climbed the roof and looked across the plain; On every side he saw the hostile train.
- E6.9.45He waited while the armed men, fierce of face,Drew close beneath the walls around the place.
- E6.9.46He stood upon the roof in open sight,Clad in the signs of kingship, gleaming bright.
- E6.9.47They saw the crown, the earrings, torque, and gold,And cried, “Khosrow is trapped within the hold!”
