Tukhar Frees Shiruyeh
From E7.10, Shiruyeh Is Released. It illustrates E7.10.119–130:
- E7.10.119He spoke and urged his charger toward the fight,Like Azargashasp in his fiery might.
- E7.10.120He led his forces forward in array; The captain met him fiercely on the way.
- E7.10.121Those famous troops were shattered in the fray,The army’s captain met his death that day.
- E7.10.122The royal forces scattered in that strife; The day grew dark; the king’s cause lost its life.
- E7.10.123In battle dress, through battle’s opened way,He entered that cramped prison straightaway.
- E7.10.124He called exalted Shiruyeh from the cell; The prince replied, and knew his purpose well.
- E7.10.125At Tukhar’s shining face, his sorrow spread; His heart swelled up with grief and aching dread.
- E7.10.126Yet still he wept: “Where is Parviz today? To free us is no task for you, I say.”
- E7.10.127Tukhar replied, “Do not deny our will,Or count yourself apart, resisting still.
- E7.10.128If one in sixteen sons should fail our need,Still fifteen brothers wait of royal seed.
- E7.10.129Each one is fit for sovereignty and crown; Each one would grace the throne of high renown.”
- E7.10.130Shiruyeh, still bewildered, wept, then passedBeyond the prison door that held him fast.
