Rostam Unhorses Shangul with One Thrust

From B14.11, Rostam Puts Shangul to Flight. It illustrates B14.11.7–12:

  • B14.11.7
He came to Shangul, calling out in scorn:“You low-born wretch, of shameful lineage born!
  • B14.11.8
Zal named me Rostam; why, you man of shame,Do you now call me by the Sagzi name?
  • B14.11.9
Then this Sagzi shall be your death today;Your jowshan, helm, shall shroud your lifeless clay.”
  • B14.11.10
He circled Shangul on the battleground,Between the two drawn ranks that hemmed them round.
  • B14.11.11
One spear-thrust lifted Shangul from his steed,And dashed him headfirst down with force and speed.
  • B14.11.12
He rode across him, yet no wound was made; Then lion-hearted Rostam drew his blade.
