Houman and Barman Bring the Gifts
From B8.7, Afrasiab Sends Envoys to Sohrab. It illustrates B8.7.27–32:
- B8.7.27When word came that the envoys reached his land,He girt himself to meet the royal band.
- B8.7.28Like wind he rode, his grandfather beside,To greet the envoys where the field lay wide.
- B8.7.29He saw the army massed in ordered rows,And joy within the youthful hero rose.
- B8.7.30When Houman saw his neck and mighty frame,He marveled that the rumor matched the fame.
- B8.7.31With Barman, he presented every prize,The letter, arms, and gear before his eyes.
- B8.7.32Then both delivered Afrasiab’s command,And placed his spoken purpose in Sohrab’s hand.
