From C3.19, Khosrow Musters the Army. It illustrates C3.19.34–45 (to C3.19.46):
- C3.19.34Gudarz then called the paymasters to countThe army’s rolls and pay the full amount.
- C3.19.35From mountain pastures he brought every steed,The gathered herds to serve the army’s need.
- C3.19.36His stores held swords, dinars, and girdles bright,Rich jowshan, golden helmets for the fight.
- C3.19.37He gave the paymasters the keys that day;The hour for vengeance called them to the fray.
- C3.19.38He poured much wealth among the gathered force,And armed the footmen and the men on horse.
- C3.19.39An army like a mountain gathered, vast; The earth shook as their hoofbeats thundered past.
- C3.19.40The hearts of lions quaked before that train,Where iron, gold, and silver lit the plain.
- C3.19.41He bade them make their preparations clear,And turn to vengeance heart and eye and ear.
- C3.19.42They marched by companies before their chief,Like mountains massed, their strength beyond belief.
- C3.19.43He watched the troops; the earth was dark below,The sky above a lapis-colored glow.
- C3.19.44He said: “Since Pashan’s battle, no arrayHas matched the force that stands in ranks today,
- C3.19.45With horses, arms, with silver and with gold,War elephants and warriors lion-bold.
