Khosrow Arms Against Shideh
From C4.8, Kay Khosrow Battles Shideh. It illustrates C4.8.8–14:
- C4.8.8The monarch laughed; he called for jowshan, helm,And raised his royal standard for the realm.
- C4.8.9He set a golden helmet on his head,And gave Rohham the royal flag to spread.
- C4.8.10But all his soldiers were distressed and cried,As though fierce fire consumed them from inside.
- C4.8.11A cry rose from the ranks: “O Shah, we pray,Let iron not wear your sacred flesh away.
- C4.8.12The throne has always been the monarch’s seat;Who girded you, a vengeful foe to meet?
- C4.8.13May he for whom you arm yourself just nowBe laid in dust with broken aim and vow.”
- C4.8.14In jowshan, helm, and gorz the king stood tall,And hailed his troops with greeting: “Warriors all!”
