Goshtasb Flings the Answer at the Envoys
From C6.7, Zarir Replies to Arjasp. It illustrates C6.7.17–24:
- C6.7.17He sealed the letter, wrote his royal name,And called the envoys who from Arjasp came.
- C6.7.18He said, “Take this reply from my own hand;No more shall you set foot within my land.
- C6.7.19Were safe-conduct for envoys not decreed,And written in the Zand-Avesta’s creed,
- C6.7.20I would have roused you from this sleep outright,And hung you living at the gibbet’s height,
- C6.7.21So Arjasp, that vile man, would learn to bringNo insolent defiance to a king.”
- C6.7.22He threw the letter: “Take it in your care,And bear it to the Turkish warlock’s lair.
- C6.7.23Say this: ‘Your day of ruin now draws near;Your time for blood and dust is almost here.
- C6.7.24May your neck feel the blade, your flesh be torn,And may your bones lie scattered and forlorn.
