Where the text names it
In the course of digging he found something resembling a glazed jar; he wrapped it in a dirty handkerchief, stood up, and said:
besides, instead of my wages I found a jar, a Ragha vase, belonging to the ancient city of Ray, eh...”
He held beneath his arm the jar that he had tied inside a wrinkled handkerchief, went toward the hearse, and with a peculiar agility took his place on the seat.
I turned and saw a figure seated beside me, its head and face wrapped in a scarf, with something tied in a handkerchief under its arm.
For instance, today I went to dig a grave and this vase came out from beneath the earth; you know, it is a Ragha vase, from the ancient city of Ray, eh?
It is really not worthy of you; I am giving you this jar so that you will have it as a keepsake of me.”
He put the jar in my lap and rose. His shoulders shook from the force of his laughter.
I picked up the jar and set off after the old man’s hunchbacked figure.
So that I could see my surroundings, I put the jar upon my chest and held it there with my hand.
A pleasant ease enveloped me from head to foot. Only the vase pressed on my chest like the weight of a dead body.
The hearse stopped; I picked up the jar and jumped down from the carriage. I was before the door of my house.
I hurried into my room, put the jar on the table, went and took the tin box—the same tin box that was my money box and that I had hidden in the back closet of my room—
